on Accelerating Student Learning (CASL) is designed to accelerate
learning for students with disabilities in the early grades and thereby
to provide a solid foundation for strong achievement in the intermediate
grades and beyond. Center for the
Improvement of Early Reading Achievement (CIERA) is a national
center for research on early reading. Center for
Effective Collaboration and Practice supports and promotes
a reoriented national preparedness to foster the development and
the adjustment of children with or at risk of developing serious
emotional disturbance. Current Practice Alerts series is a joint initiative sponsored by two divisions of the Council for Exceptional Children-the Division for Learning Disabilities (DLD) and the Division for Research (DR). Special Project tracks and disseminates federally funded
special education research for practitioners through various publications
and conferences. Publications include Research
Connections,a biannual review of OSEP-sponsored research on topics
in special education, Newsbriefs,
which summarize some of the most recent research from OSEP, Topical
Briefs, short publications that are intended to increase awareness
and understanding of specific subjects, and special public awareness
campaigns such as Learning
to Read, Reading to Learn. Institute
for Academic Access (IAA) is a collaborative project uniting
researchers from the University of Kansas and the University of Oregon
in an effort to dramatically improve the success of high school students
with disabilities. Institute
of Education Sciences (IES) – replaces the former Office
of Educational Research and Improvement, which had formerly been
responsible for education research and statistics and reflects the
intent of the President and Congress to advance the field of education
research, making it more rigorous in support of evidence-based education. National
Center on Educational Outcomes (NCEO) provides national leadership
in the participation of students with disabilities in national and
state assessments, standards-setting efforts, and graduation requirements. National Research
Center on Learning Disabilities engages in research, develops
recommendations, and provides training to help administrators, teachers,
parents, and policy makers address the complex issues surrounding
the proper identification of students with learning disabilities
who need special education services. TeachingLD is
a service of the Division for Learning Disabilities (DLD) of the Council
for Exceptional Children. What Works Clearinghouse
(WWC) was established in 2002 by the U.S. Department of Education's Institute
of Education Sciences to provide educators, policymakers, researchers,
and the public with a central, independent, and trusted source of
